I wanted to make this blanket for my son and his girlfriend who are a lovely and loving couple. I have just tried Mochila and amigurumi with tiny hooks so the speed of this has been great. I whizzed along!
I don’t like join as you go so I decided to make all my textured panels first, 5 made, ends weaved in securely then onto hearts etc.
Woe is me. Why don’t I ever listen when designers warn me about stuff?? I made my first heart panel and it was a good 8” longer than the textured ones. No amount of blocking will make these babies match!
I had to frog the lot and have started again with the bigger hook. Joy of joys they now match, but BE WARNED, follow the pattern….. unless you’re a bit weird and frog for fun
I decided to make all the hearts then joining them together for the panel. I find that I get more of a rhythm that way.
To try to get the edges of the hearts as smooth as possible for the join, I left a long tail, using it to join, and joined using the invisible join method. I like this way of joining much better than ss, I think it is much neater.
TIP The pattern wants you to split row 3 of the hearts panel, but I found this unnecessary, and actually much easier to complete that before the chain decoration. This will make sense if you have the pattern.
As I’m not join as you go-ing, I am blocking each panel before making up. Blocking the whole blanket would be an immense job, especially as I have to treat the wool nice to prevent felting.
I joined using a ss along each panel, then started on the border. Did a couple of rounds (that’s a LOT of stitches!!) and it became apparent I didn’t have enough wool.
Sigh, frogged again and did one round of (US) dc and three rounds of sc. Actually I think I like this border better. Nice and neat and simple
