Notes

I really like the original pattern for Catch His Eye but I wanted a little more shaping to make it more eyeball-ish. Then the more I fiddled with the shaping, the more I thought felting would make it even better.

I did have to buy the Patons wool for this since I didn’t quite have enough left-overs in my stash in white and red. I hope the felting will turn out okay.

UPDATE: (12/18/09)

My mystery black wool was SUPERWASH! Arg!! Everything felted but the pupil of the eye. At least it was an easy place to graft a new section in, which I did tonight. I will boil the bottom in the morning and needlefelt the edges to make sure it is a solid fabric. I hope it works!

UPDATE II: (12/27/09)

As a gift, the fuzzy eye was a real hit for Christmas. I think it’s funny that the felting gave it enough body that makes nearly everyone who gets their hands on it want to put it up to their head like my daughter is modeling in the first picture. It’s silly, weird, and adorably fun. My husband can’t wait to get his to use as a dice bag now. :D

Additional project notes:
Because red is notorious for not being particularly color safe, I used some Shout Color Catcher sheets during felting. I’m so glad I did since even with that in the washer, there was still some faint bleeding. I also lined the bag with some white satin, just to give it a more finished feel to it.
