After knitting up a storm for family, time for a little treat… .
Like most of the other posters, I highly recommend reading the other posts as well as picking up a newer version of the pattern (2009), as the original has a lot of errors. Also, the norah gaughan vol. 3 kal group is very helpful.
I also (like many other knitters) decided to knit a size smaller (34 instead of 38 … I’m normally a 36) since the pattern tends to run a little large, add an extra cable (3 inches of length; half before binding off for the armholes and half after the sleeves) and moved the button holes so that they were more centered (k2, then k2tog, yo, k). I also added 2 rows of reverse st st at the base to help prevent rolling.
Finally, I noticed while reading other posts that the yoke section of this piece was a place of frustration. I found (after studying other posts pictures, reading other posts, reading through the pattern and then finally ripping this part out a couple of time) that there’s a reason Norah didn’t center the decreases, but instead has them angled away from on another (they form a diamond pattern). I found that for me, the final product fit better as the decreases are evenly distributed (which I’m trying to show in picture #3) vs being centered on top of each other.
3 Aug 2009: Okay, so under normal circumstances, Loppem is a quick knit. But I’ve been sick for the past month, so not such a quick knit. Slow and steady, though.
17 Aug 2009: Finished knitting. Need to block and find buttons.
19 Aug 2009: Finished blocking. Off to Nancy’s Sewing Basket to find buttons tomorrow.
