NOTE: this pattern is definitely made for thread…
the picture is soo cool… the breeze is blowing it out so you can really see it!
All I have is a chart that I downloaded from a website somewhere. The chart is in russian with a tiny thumbnail of a picture.
It is so beautiful, even in what little I can see of the thumbnail, that I just HAVE to make this shawl. It is something that has been calling to me forever.
i am using a US size 00 hook, 3.5 mm. if one wanted a smaller shawl then all you would have to do is use a smaller hook.
well .. this is an interesting shape. it has a round neckline and then goes down the sides. so the inner measurement isn’t really a wingspan. the shape of this shawl is definitely a cape.
pre-block measurements -
length of center of one panel = 29”
length of inner 2 sides + neckline = 72”
post-block measurements -
length of center of one panel = 33”
length of inner 2 sides + neckline = 78”
i only beaded the top flowers. i wasnt sure if the beads were adding size to the flowers. so this shawl is beaded along the shoulders as an accent. definitely curious to see what it looks like blocked and ironed… yep, it’s 100% cotton and i intend to iron it after it is blocked. that should help set the cotton into a stable shape.
how much thread did i use? 1 lb/2700 yard ball now weighs 5 ounces. (i took a picture of it next to an unopened ball just for fun.)
x yds/5 oz = 2700 yds/16 oz
x = 843.75 yards
that means i have 843.75 yards left. you can see the last photo that shows how much of the thread from one of the balls that i used. it was new when i started.
these pictures just do NOT do this shawl justice. it is really a cape in shape and on, it is just absolutely spectacular.
doing this in thread made it just perfect for the houston humid/hot weather.
