I am hoping that there is enough of this thread to make this tablecloth. If my estimate is correct then I have about 4480 yards. This should be plenty since the pattern calls for 3600 yards. Always want to have too much!
I love Elizabeth Hiddleson patterns. I am not sure about doing this in white. I love colored tablecloths. They are so dramatic. But the thread needs to be used up, so why not?
Using #9 (1.4 mm) hook.
bgr - beginning round
rf - repeat from
Rnd 1 - after the ring says ch 4 (as first stitch) then 36 dc in ring. That doesn’t make sense for the first round. ch 4 is too much for a first dc.
Rnd 2 ends up with 35 tr + ch 1 combinations.
So, I am going to start with a ch 2 and not count it as there first dc in Row 1. Let’s see what happens.
Rnd 1 - 35 dc = Rnd 2 - 35 tr
The pattern is a little overfull. Once you get to Rnd 6, it starts flattening out. The chain 7, that you don’t work into in Rnd 7 is going to be a little loopy. But it’s too hard to tell which one you are working into until you get there. It looks fine though.
If being overly full bugs you (like it does me), then shortening the chains by 1 chain all the way around, will tighten things up a bit. You don’t need to do this on every round. Just when you feel like it needs it.
Always work a few chains and then lay your work down and see if it is laying flat. If it cups, you have shortened too much.
Remember that what you do in one round, may be tightened up in the next.
I am on Rnd 14 and my work lays pretty flat.
Rnd 19 Error
The instructions should read, ….. ch 6, dc in tr, ch 5, dc in tr, ch 6, dc in tr, ch 2, rf.
What is bolded is what needs to be inserted to work the round correctly.
Rnd 20 Error
Should say tr in next dc - every time.
Rnd 21 Error
After the “make 2 ch 2 sps” there should be a ch 5, tr and then start from the beginning of the repeat.
460 yards took me through Rnd 44 and just a bit of Rnd 45.
End of Row 44 - I did not fasten off here. I ended the round with a ch 5, sl st join into ch 4 of beginning ch 9. Then sl st into the next ch space and start Round 45 from there.
Error Pg 27
The arrow that is labeled Rnd 45 is REALLY pointing at Rnd 46.
This is important because Rnd 46 instructions are a bit vague and refer you to the photo. It all works, if you are looking at the correct round!
5/5/2024
Ongoing. I am on round 60. The rounds are long but not bad when watching a show. They are not difficult.
I keep stopping and making some crocheted tops for my daughter’s summer birthday. It gives my finger a break from the thread work and sharp small hook.
I love making tablecloths!
6/7/2024
I took a break for a month to work on some other projects for gifts. This is my in-between project when I don’t want to think really hard about what I am doing. I just have to figure out the repeat pattern for the row and then I can watch a movie and work on it. It’s very relaxing.
Round 71 error
3 tr cluster on 2 tr, ch 5, make 4 tr on 4, ch 2, a 3 tr cl on 2 tr
The “ch 5” and the “ch 2” that are on each side of the 4 tr on 4 should match. This is an obvious error.
The 3 tr cluster on 2 tr is supposed to be the tip of a leaf that is leaning away from the stalk of the plant. Doing a ch 5 was too much and ch 2 didn’t seem like enough.
I decided to split the difference and do a ch 3 on each side.
June 2024 - Stopped working on this because I was moving.
Sept 7, 2024 - Started working on this again, Round 76.
I changed the last round. I skipped the picots on the last round. Then I added a round where I did 9 sc in each loop and then sl st into the sc. I placed the picot on this added round - in the places where it was supposed to be placed.
This entire tablecloth is worked with one continuous thread from the cone. Only the beginning and the end had ends to work in. I love cones! I didn’t use a complete cone of thread, the yardage is estimated.
The final border of “flowers” looks to be a bit full. I haven’t blocked the tablecloth yet. It’s very difficult to see if a cloth is overly full at this stage. I figure it doesn’t matter because the edge is supposed to fall off the table and drape.
