I have run out of rug patterns that I want to try. I know, lots of them out there but I want a specific type that will be pretty solid and use up scrap yarn. So, fancy stitch patterns would be lost in a scrap yarn rug.
I tried the Bumpy Rows stitch but it’s too bumpy when holding 4 strands together.
I am trying the “crochet stitch that looks like knitting” stitch. Honestly, it has no name that I could find. lol
crochet a stitch that looks like knitting
I an holding 4 strands of the 3 yarns listed above.
1 white
1 orange
2 orange/pink/white
There is no repeat in this stitch pattern.
Going to start and end the rug with a row of hdc for a border.
chain 70
1st row = 34 inches, t-ch 2
Row 3 = 31.5 inches
I switched to a t-ch 1 later because I felt it worked better to keep the rug square.
Size
I decided to keep going with this rug and not stop at the “standard” size. I have all of this yarn, I am going to keep going until it runs out in this rug. So, this rug is going to be a LARGE crocheted rug.
I have to say that it’s a LOT of hdc stitches. If I had made it narrower, it would probably have been more like a hallway runner. But that’s okay. However it turns out, it will be functional and still be able to launder in the washing machine.
Finishing
Done! I only have about 1/3 of the orange yarn left. It was a full and very large skein. The other 3 skeins were finished up. A very small 1 inch ball of each skein was left - which went in the trash.
I was going to finish the rug with a row of blohdc. I had enough yarn to do this. But I worked the stitches of the rug, fairly tightly as they just looked better that way and then the row of hdc looked loose and too wide. So, I finished with a row of sc and it looks better across the top.
Last step is hiding the ends and laundering. This rug will launder easily in the washer/dryer. The stitches are thick but the rug bends easily for laundering.
Dimensions
width - 27 inches
length - 37 inches
Hindsight
The width shortened up considerably more than I expected. Original width of Row 1 was 34 inches.
ETA - I figured out why is shortened so much. I didn’t pay attention to always having the correct amount of stitches going across each row. I was so bored with the repetitiveness of the stitch pattern.
Because this is cotton yarn, the rug spreads out easily - nice and rectangular.
It is a bit bright with the bright orange and pink colors. But it used up a lot of yarn and that was the point. I would prefer this pattern in a solid color but that’s just my color preferences. This rug will do the job of protecting my carpet from muddy dog paws.
