Notes

I need a simple pattern that I can easily hide a mistake in. This yarn does not frog well.

This pattern is strange in that her charted rows are EACH row and not an overall chart. The middle is not charted either - just a section of it. So, you have to be able to visualize for the middle.

The odd part is when you come to Rows 18, 19 and so on in the “Artichoke Section”. Up until this section, the FPDC stitches were on odd rows.

Now Row 18 is FPDC and Row 19 is BPDC. Which puts the raised stitches on the OTHER side (back?)

At the end of Row 19 instructions it says

Important note on this row: the “textured” stitches in this row are bpdc, unlike the previous row, where they were fpdc, so that the final result in the “right” side is always fpdc (raised stitches)

That makes no sense. I double checked what pictures I could find. The pattern does not seem to have pictures of this section in the photos. But there are plenty of project photos. Every last one of them has the raised stitches on the backside when you get to the Artichoke Section.

I think what she means is that the texture from the Artichoke Section goes on the back of the shawl. Only the rows that are raised are shown in the front. The pattern is consistent this way.

Go To
There is a lot of “go to” in this pattern. I didn’t print this because my printer is currently not set up. There is a print friendly section for the pattern in the 2nd half of the pattern.

All of the “go to” business is a lot harder online!

This pattern is working for this yarn. The mohair and the variegated color obscures the stitches. But it still works. I think the pattern itself would look better in a different yarn. At the very least, I could make this with a different yarn and I think the 2 shawls would not be recognizable as the same pattern.

Hindsight - This pattern is overly full along the bottom edges. It starts to get too full before you work the edging. You don’t see this unless you spread the shawl out flat on a surface.

I am very sure that I cannot block this out because this yarn is mostly acrylic/nylon.
