This is my 2nd try at this cat bed. I want to see how big this one turns out. My first try was multiple strands of worsted and other weights held together. It was pretty thick but my gauge was about half of what it was supposed to be.

My daughter has 2 cats, so this should work out just fine.

I added the unlabeled cones to use them up. They were damaged (stained) in my last move. They work great as filler for rugs and things. Plus, it gives the yarn a tweedy look so that it won’t show dirt so fast.

I am using the 12 mm for the base. It’s awkward but doable. I don’t know how she used a 16 mm for her base. It seems like it would be really loose for such a large hook for the yarn.

Gauge
1st 4 rows = 7.5 inches, 12 mm hook

I finally figured out that when my base got ruffly, it was because I had made a mistake in my increases. Once I straightened that out, it was fine.

Base at 9 rounds = 13 inches

Walls
I used the 10 mm hook for the walls.

I did Round 10 with a blohdc and no increases. This helps the wall to have a crisper line between the base and the wall.

I added 2 extra wall rounds to make the walls just a bit taller. It’s nice that the last sc round helps the walls to stand up.
