Notes

Destashing project. I‘ve this bamboo yarn in my stash since two years and no clear plans what to do with it. Originally, I planned a cardigan to fit my summer top, however, the top grows longer and longer with wear. This yarn is heavy and slippery, therefore, I decided to change plans.
Now the intention is to pair the bamboo yarn with a thread of Setasuri to give it some structure and „bite“, to keep things in shape. Using thick needles (5mm) provides the right drape (see gauge swatch, lower part was knit in 4.5mm - which turned out still too dense).
As I need to utilize both colors (white and grey) to have sufficient yarn for a sweater, I‘ll go for a mix of stripes and structure elements along with a somewhat oversized fit and a European, dropped shoulder construction to keep the whole project seamless. In case I’ll run out of yarn, sacrifice my Sommer top ( or at least the 2 bottom repeats).
Admittedly, the design is inspired by the Stornoway Sweater (by Cheryl Mokhtari) and the Storm Sweater (by PetiteKnit). However, I don‘t own either pattern and just followed the vibes I got from the pictures, building my own design.
I‘ll start again with an icord construction (6 stitches, 44 rows to pick-up from = 46 rows total) for the neckband and continue the ends flat (4 stitches) to form the structural edge for the European shoulder (total final back width: 110 stitches). I also add some neck shaping by short rows and picking-up stitches from the icord ever second row (2, 2, 4) while starting the shoulder increases at the same time (RLI and RLPI from the first of the 4 shoulder stitches at the end of the row and M1R and M1PR after the 4th stitch at the beginning of the rows). From there it will be a plain rectangle until joining under the sleeves (planned sleeve depth: 18cm).

Finished weight: 570g. The difference went into the gauge swatch which I didn’t undo as I had sufficient yarn.
