The referenced “Ugly Ducklings” pattern is unfortunately discontinued. Tried to figure out from the pictures how it might work and think I captured at least the spirit of it. Will work them toe-up though. Working the toe to 64 stitches and increase by 8 stitches then (72 in total - 18 pattern repeats) with starting the mosaic pattern to make up for the intrinsic shrinkage. Also working the sole in pattern to avoid it getting „baggy“ as it appears on some of the other project photos of the pattern. Decreasing again by 8 stitches for the cuff and using Jeny‘s incredible stretching bind-off for finish.

Long drive on past Saturday an Sunday, forth and back to meet with with friends not seen in person for years. As I was working on his socks, hubby volunteered to drive the whole distance, which gave the socks a nice boost . Starting from the finished heel I could work my way through the leg and cuff of the first one and arrived at the beginning of the gusset of the second one.

The color changes of the yarn are giving me a headache. To reproduce a second sock that is at least similar to the first one is difficult. The length and intensity in changes is different for each iteration. Had to cut out lengths of yarn already three times until the end of the gusset, resulting in less smooth color transitions.
