I used a two-color Italian cast-on. I’m using Omamarienkaefer’s version of the pattern, which will make the scarf legible from either side. I mean, if you can read elvish.

I struggled at first--rows one through twelve were frogged so many times the yellow yarn has a purple tint there. Something clicked last week and I started understanding what I was doing. It’s gotten fun, which is good since I have a long way to go.

I just started row 57. There are a couple stitches I needed to ladder down to fix, so they’re a bit tight. Should sort itself out after blocking.

I got sidetracked by another pattern after making it to row 225, but now I’m almost done and ready to get back to work. I’ve had some adventures figuring out a good tension for double knitting. In parts of the pattern where you use the same color yarn a lot in a row, the other yarn needs a tug to keep the slack from becoming a problem. I think I’ve got it down a little better now.

Finally and at long last, it’s finished. I learned a lot about double knitting from this scarf. It might have been a shade too ambitious for a first double knitting project, which is probably why I kept getting distracted by mirrored patterns, but I’m glad I did it this way in the end.
