Notes

See pictures for the charts(droids, blasters, lightsabers, and Admiral Ackbar) I made to supplement the pattern. You’re welcome to use them in your own projects, if you like.

Changes I’ve made:

  • Droid sections-- red hearts on both sides for R2 and 3PO (should have gone with pink on one side, but oh well), removing ! from Imperial side, and using the filled in version of the probe droid from my second scarf. Nixed the exclamation point I had done previously, I decided it looked a bit busy.

  • Non-mirrored lettering with a mirrored Admiral Ackbar with “It’s a trap!” and “That’s no moon…” to replace written sections (the original is apparently a reference to an X-Wing flying Ewok in Aurebesh, for the curious). I redid the lettering since my first two, and I like this way better.

  • Windows/cockpits in the tie fighters and Y-Wings

  • Flipping the blasters on their sides (better make them one row taller this time to compensate for change). Changed the length/spacing for the bolts.

  • I made my own lightsaber sections this time. I’m using it to test my limits with double knitting. Tension with tons of strands, combining it with other colorwork techniques, etc. These few rows are where all of that extra yarn I listed came from.

I may add little beads for power switches, I haven’t decided yet.

I’ve learned a lot of interesting new stuff from this project.

For one I found out a little ways into my first blaster section that every other row of my stitches were twisted. Evidently I’ve been wrapping my purls the wrong way around all this time. Turns out I’m a “combined knitter”, and knitting through the back loops fixes the problem.

I’ve also experimented with manipulating multiple strands and tried out combining dk with fair isle/intarsia techniques.
