I wish the pattern told you how much of the main colour you needed for the hat. It’s over 100yds but less than 200yds.

Need to rip out and start over, hat is WAY too big at pattern gauge of 4.5st/in on US8 with grey, recalc to CO 86st not 96.

February 5th: Hem ready to be joined together, contrast stitches on bamboo dpns and provisional cast on removed.
February 6th: Hem complete, two welts done. Think I might need that second ball of yarn after all.
February 7th: All four welts done, about to start short rows. Nearly finished the first ball of yarn, slipping in an extra row here and there.
February 8th: Short rows complete, started the second ball of yarn, planning to add 3-5 more rows before decreases for increased slouch.
February 9th: Will be seeing recipient on Sunday 12th, want to have hat FINISHED by then. I can do this. Did not need much of the second ball of yarn.

Lisa is wearing this with the hem turned up to display the purple, and loves the hat.
