ROW 4: 11(12,12,13) scfl, 2 scbl, 2 scfl, 11(12,13,13) scbl, 2 scfl, 2 scbl. (Easily keep track of the 2 large groups without counting by marking the first and last sts of scfl group with color A, and the scbl group with color B.)

ROW 5 to 19(19,20,21): Rep row 4 for 14(14,15,16) rounds until there are 15(15,16,17) visible ridges, not counting the last row worked. Try on slipper with ridges on bottom of foot. Piece should come to about 1 inch before crook of bent ankle; if short, add another row.

ROW 20(20,21,22) to 25(26,28,30): Working in rows, turn (do not ch1) and work on just the 19(20,21,21) sts of the sole, taking care not to skip first sc. 19(20,21,21) sc, turn. Remove stitch markers from scbl group but leave markers on scfl group. Rep from * to * 6x(7x,8x,9x) for a total of 7(8,9,10) rows.

CUFF: Widen loop on hook slightly, remove hook, fold heel in half lengthwise, insert hook into stitch on opposite side of heel, grab loop and pull through, ch1. Working in the round, sc all around opening of slipper until center of heel.

Scbl in each st around except sc2togbl in each corner where top of slipper meets sides (marked sts), and sc2togbl, 3 scbl, sc2togbl in the 7 sts around heel.

Scbl in each st around except sc2togbl in each corner where top of slipper meets sides (marked sts), and 2 sc2togbl in the 4 sts around heel. 2 slst. Leaving 8 inches of tail, cut yarn and fasten off.

Turn slipper inside-out and use tapestry needle and tail of yarn to stitch the gap in the heel. Weave in ends.
