Sides (round 2 through 21): Ch 2. Hdc in next 35 hdc (36 sts). Join with sl st to top of ch2. Repeat from * to * 19 times, or until piece measures 4 1/2 inches. Ch 1. Sc in same st and each st around. Join to ch1 with sl st.

Flap: Ch2. Turn. Hdc in same st and next 14 sts. Ch 1. Turn. Sc in same st and next 14 sts. Repeat from * to * 6 times. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Neck cord: Ch until piece measures about 28 inches (or any length desired). Hdc in 3rd ch and each ch across. Fasten off. Thread tapestry needle with a double strand of yarn 42 inches long. Run needle through center of row of Hdc. Slide and adjust row of hdc along the strands, centering the row and leaving an even length of strands at each end. Use strands to sew cord onto each side of bag, taking into account any overlap and ensuring that finished cord measures 28 inches. Knot; weave in ends.
