Tried the diamond heel to see how it would fit, but there was far too much length on the instep after the short row heel turn was complete to make the foot work out later. Ripped back to start of heel and did another Plain heel, instead.
CO 64 sts, k2p2 ribbing for 16 rnds, 82 rnds total for leg, finishing after 5 rnds of dark blue (approximate midpoint of stripe)
PCO 36 for heel. Measured off to the midpoint of the dark blue at end of heel, and was able to finish heel and graft right before that midpoint, and could just join the cut yarn to the instep without winding off any yarn.

Decided to do an interesting toe from the Encyclopedia of Needlework by Theresa de Dillmont. 4 decs every other round, evenly spaced, left leaning, with the decs moving an extra stitch to the left each time so that the spiral circles several times before the toe is done. Kind of pointy, but I think it’ll fit after it’s been washed, blocked, and worn a few times.
