For vintage sock/stocking project.
Knitting one sock with the “regulation” length leg (11’’), using the Aladdin heel and the casting on method.
Will work a second sock with the “slack” length leg (6’’) using the Aladdin heel and the variation where sts picked up along the edge of the flaps with the contrast yarn (bind off/grafting method).

37 rnds of k2p2 ribbing, 1 dec rnd (reducing 72 sts to 64), then 88 rnds of the moss stitch rib, before starting the heel. Adjusted the start of rnd by 2 sts to create symmetry (2 knits at start and end of heel and instep).
Heel flap is worked with a one-stitch garter stitch selvedge on each edge.
I will use the CO method of the Aladdin heel, using a backwards loop CO. I’ll CO fewer sts than needed, and make up the difference with m1 incs into the CO edge on the following round. Rather than using separate lengths of contrast to mark the end of the heel and sew up each side, I’ll use an extra-long length to mark the heel, using the third in the center of the yarn for that. I can then use the extra long tails at each end to sew up the gusset to the heel flap at the end. This will reduce the number of yarn tails to weave in at the bottom of the foot.
Since I won’t be able to use my regular trick to prevent holes at the corners (because I won’t be PU sts along the edge of the flap, I’ll use the tails to close those corners.
