In perfect time for a chilly weekend in this secluded cottage in the Lake District with no electricity and only ‘the muncher’ stove to warm us. Happy times!
I love how traditional this pattern is using natural yet interesting colours. The resulting jumper is very, very warm!
Pattern Notes
The pattern omits to tell you how to decrease before beginning the yoke. I simply took the two different stitch counts, subtracted the number I wanted to obtain from the number I had and decreased these evenly throughout.
In the pattern beginning 29 the number of stitches for large and extra large isn’t divisible by 4 which is the pattern repeat at this point. I added one stitch to get me 144 and therefore an unbroken circular repeat.
The same problem occurs in line 37 where the repeat is 4 and the number of stitches is 110. I didn’t bother adjusting the stitches at this point but you could by either going up by 2 or down by 2 to get a more perfect repeat.
Neckband
I changed the neckband to a doubled-over style and used ’Grandma’s favourite bind off’ as my loose bind off. I also went back up to a needle size 6mm for this final row for extra looseness.
Grandma’s Favourite Bind Off
Place needle in stitches as if to P2tog but wrap the right needle with the yarn clockwise (opposite of usual); pass the stitch on the left needle onto the left needle and repeat until only one stitch remains. Draw the tail through the final stitch using a darning needle as usual.
