A Bláklukka for ages 10-12
I have also made a Bláklukka for Seona’s younger sister in a size aged 8-10 years.
My gauge is somewhat loose so I used 4mm needles (80cm and 40cm circular) for the whole garment. That way I got the called-for 18 stitches to 10cm.
Here are my figures for age 10-12(with no shaping in the body).
Body stitches 144 (Seona is quite slim)
Length of body to underarm 37cm
Sleeves cast on: 36 stitches
Sleeves
Cast on: 36 stitches; 4 rows of moss stitch, then 7 rows of stocking stitch, then Inc every 10th round 7 times. Continue in plain st st until the sleeve is 42cm in length (23 more rows in my case). 50 stitches at the top of sleeve. 9 stitches are placed underarm on a holder for each sleeve.
After joining the body and sleeves in the round (with 9 stitches held for the underarms) I decreased by four stitches evenly (from 208 stitches to 204) then I could proceed with the Bláklukka yoke chart from then on apart from adding 3 rows of white between and at the edge of the garlands.
My resulting measurements
Chest 80cm all round
Body from underarm 37cm
Sleeves 42cm to the underarm
The only other change I made was to make a ‘yarn over k2tog’ buttonhole in the neckband. After blocking this doesn’t affect the yoke shaping or pattern.
The colours of the yarn are so pretty especially the green which has little flecks of blue and is such a springtime green. I also loved the blue which once knitted looks almost purple - just lovely!
