Notes

This cowl is part of a winter set I made for myself! I knit this in a light gray from yarn that is incredibly soft and perfect for wearing around a bare neck. What appeals to me about this cowl is its symmetry. I love staring at it and of course wearing it. I love it even more because of the mathematical connection.

How I made it:
I did 18 repeats of the Irish Hiking Scarf pattern (same number of stitches as for the scarf). Next,on another needle, I picked up stitches from the cast on edge so that I had the same number of picked up stitches as live ones. If I make this again, I will likely cast on provisionally and I will Kitchner the stitches together like when finishing the toe of a sock.

I had the right side and wrong sides facing each other (a bit of a twist) so that I could show the right side at all times.

I then did a three needle bind off. There are lots of videos and tutorials on how to do a three needle bind off. Essentially, holding the two needles parallel, you treat a stitch from each needle like they’re one stitch and knit them together. Once you have two stitches on your right needle, you bind off as usual.

How I’ll wear it:
Two ways I will wear this: 1) traditional cowl way, with the seam at the back of the neck; 2) with the right side facing.

I’ll make the mitts and a beret to match. From 3 balls of yarn, I have only used 1/2 a ball!

I might pin it with a cute pin when I need it very close to my neck. Decorative and practical- my kind of knit!
