Notes

Because I’m using different yarns, I had to go up to a size 8 to approximate gauge…. I was between a US 7 and 8, but chose 8 so the fabric would be a little lighter (and not as super toasty warm) and softer.

Needed to buy one more skein of the Plymouth, but had two extra of the Lang mohair-silk. Apparently I didn’t do the math correctly!

Modifications: Didn’t do the sleeves as long--on the 2x2 ribbing did 15 rows, then the eyelets. On the 1x1 cuff ribbing, did 12 rows, plus 2 rows of set up for the tubular bind off.

I have a propensity to make stuff too big, so decided to not go too long on the body. Now that it is soaking for blocking, I’m hoping I decided wisely. Will see after blocking, since super wash tends to get longer….

Neckline: didn’t care for the look of the 2x2 rib morphing into 1x1 rib so kept it at two. I decreased needle size after the first 12 rows. It ends up being a stand-up neck just like I wanted--keeps the back of my neck warm without pressing on the front of my neck (hate snug turtlenecks and things that do that!)

Suzanne Bryan’s tutorials on YouTube were particularly helpful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5CB95qtV_I is one, and there is another that is tubular bind-off in the round with excellent details for joining the round.

Boy did it GROW! I will try to block again, but sleeves are about 3” too long after washing. It’s the dratted SuperWash problem again. They cover my hands! luckily the cuff can be folded up and then the sleeves just look long and cozy. Ahem. Some of the problem is that the pattern is a drop shoulder the the body grew also contributing to the simian like sleeve fit. I am getting used to it even if disappointed. I may just have to give up on all super wash once what I have in my stash is used. I want to sue another of PetiteKnits pattern combining kid silk and a merino super wash. I think I will block the entire blasted sweater when I am at the elbows on the sleeves and the high hip on the body, then complete.

Finally re- blocked sweater and just today shortened shoulder and back neck seams. From neck seam to arm shortened from 10” to 8” using crochet line. Reduced back neck about and inch. Much better.

I may still need to re- do the tubular bind off as it looks bumpy. Or I could just let it go. The 90-mile tail and the grabbiness of the mohair are not fun.
