I loved the color gradation of the Blurz bundle of six colors, going from a butterscotch through greens to blues. The companion pattern from Good Karma is for a boatneck raglan pullover. But I’m at the hot-cold-hot phase of life, so need a Cardigan.
I also really love the Paulie cardigan by Isabell Kraemer #Paulie. But it is written for a fine yarn, not a fluffy, soft worsted. And I prefer a set-in sleeve to a raglan. I just finished my first Ziggurat and decided to try using Asa’s Jadeite pattern. I swatched the 20000 leagues yarn to figure out gauge. I compared that to the patterns in Asa’s Ziggurat book. Black Basalt was pretty perfect.
Except I wanted a shawl collar like the Paulie. So I looked at how many stitches just below sleeve separation on the Black Basalt. Then I compared that to the instructions for the Jadeite, which uses a finer yarn. Going up (or was it down?) two sizes on the Jadeite gave me the correct number of stitches plus the V-opening. So I am ignoring the bits about the button band (I’ll pick up stitches and do garter like the Paulie at the end) and working on the sweater.
Garter EATS yardage. I may need a third skein of the 20000 Leagues worsted, which they luckily still offer.
It’s a tiny bit tricky following the instructions for the Jadeite and remembering to stick to them when parsing out the color changes. I think I will be doing two sets of { 2 rows of white, then 6 rows of each color of the Blurz} and (depending on how long the yarn lasts) garter hems. Fingers crossed…… Not doing the slip stitch at the transition from the front/back to sleeve on the white rows and the first row of color after the white to avoid weird color jogs. Hope it looks ok.
Early December: taking a short break to make Christmas projects. Both sleeves are done, and I blocked the front opening for doing a double-sided band. Band/shawl collar will be in garter. Found a good tutorial by Suzanne Bryan that details how to count stitches and rows, then do the math to perfect your pickup. Alas, it looks like I probably shouldn’t have slipped stitches along the edges, but I’ll make it work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfU-6QHNlDw&t=354s

I did end up needing a third skein of the 20,000 leagues (top/hems/button band) to finish.
It is so soft, warm and comfortable. I was craving oversized comfy cozy when I made it, but kinda wish I had made the body a bit more fitted. That’s OK! I can overlap the fronts and snuggle in for winter!
