Shiftigan--summer flowers
Ta-DONE! I wet-blocked the sweater with only the first sleeve done, so still need to do the other one, but this works. I'm quite pleased. I went up a full size and that helped get the shoulders to fit.
Found the PERFECT buttons...just what I was hoping for...at Heavenly Yarns. She had 11 left in two different, some with soft blue background some with a pink. They work together--so delighted!
the inside is so pretty too! the short carries make it warm and tidy.
Say what, a selfie that isn't awful? Wearing my Zen glasses --they are heavier than my expensive ones but I so love the colors and frames--which just happen the match perfectly LOL!
Close up of the front.
Yarn chicken... ran out of the original skeins but thankfully had a moment of panic and bought one more last week. Phew!

Love that the short floats are so pretty. I did a blanket stitch in background color on the edge of the steel, then sewed down. I think I like the way it looks, but could maybe //// add ribbon later.

One sleeve done..three blip sets to go on the other. Doing some “color management” on the variations in the iSpincycle to get the sleeves to match. So far so good!
"Unbuttoned" or will be once I sew on the buttons. First sleeve almost done. Went for a wet block when I took it off to see how much the length will grow due to super wash. PS--click on pic to see the dog and cat photobombing!
Mods: longer ribbing, wider collar (more short rows in back)--wish I had made the short rows on stockinette instead. Oh well! Opted for a length and rib that I can wear with a skirt at the waist
When working in the round, make sure to keep the yarns in back and NOT crossing! Time to tink a bit and fit!
Button bands on. I've kept gauge, but it isn't fitting with quite as much ease as I had hoped. Think it will relax a bit when wet blocked at the end. Still, I like the way it looks and fits. Neckline is too open for me (well, too open for Maine!), so will be doing some decreases and more short rows than the pattern suggests.
Mattress stitch to attach...looks really good. I was worried about the change in gauge from body (US 4) to rib (US 2) needles, but it is working out.
Doing a buttonhole stitch on top of the machine zigzag of my steek. Was going to use the contrasting yarn but it didn't look good. The thickness of the yarn makes it flare a bit, but it blocks flat OK and looks way better.
Couldn't find in my books a buttonhole I liked, so I made one up. I later found a vertical in-rib 3-row buttonhole from Suzanne Bryan on YouTube that I will try next time, but I love how these totally disappear into the rib. Will explain in notes.
Full view of button band knit (I ended up needing to add to it) and part of the buttonhole band, in progress.
Close up of button bands. I decided I wanted a vertical 1x1 rib, not one that grows out of the cardigan at 90 degrees. So I knit an extension at the hem, then picked up and knit the button band from bottom to top (because I didn't think this out at the start).
Just about right... I'm using super wash so I expect it will grow in length, but that is OK because I wanted a 1940s silhouette where I can "blouse" it with the wider ribbed hem.
So I cast off 4 the center 5 stitches of the steek zone (which is 7 stitches) and did a cable cast on of 13 stitches and did the tubular bind off. Then I went back and picked up 13 stitches from that little tab to knit the button bands. Will mattress stitch on.
I liked https://www.ravelry.com/projects/mopronomi/shiftigan mopronomi's vertical button band, but she planned it out from the start. Since I wanted to go back and custom fit the neck, I did the provisional cast on and didn't have live stitches on a holder at the top, though. So I cable cast on
Getting closer, checking for how much more I need to knit before ribbing. debating longer ribbing on hem and cuffs.
It doesn't happen often. Usually in the evenings he wants to bark and play. Even though we are home all day, he sleeps during the day and goes haywire at night--long late afternoon walkies are a must!
Originally was going to use the green and plum (lower right) but decided I didn't like the mint/sage in the green skein. Found a shop with actual DyedInTheWool skeins, and was able to choose an Every Rose that works (at right, yellow on outside). If I need the burgundy for the last blips, will use.
Sleeve separation! Wearing it backwards because the needles were in center back and I wanted to keep an eye on them. I think the shoulders will be OK since I went up a size. Gauge different from swatch..see notes.
Approaching sleeve separation.
It looks so pretty spread out in a circle. Finishing up first color for Blips. Next time I'll use a finer yarn for the provisional cast-on. The aqua is nice and slippery, but too thick.
The inside is pretty too!
