MODS Knit a bit more stockinette, but ended up with 270 sts at the end of the mesh section. I beaded the edging, but it was a shot in the dark, because the edging is not charted, so it was a little hard to plot out where the beads should go. I would love it if someone would chart the edging hinthint. I tried, but have not grasped the concept of where to place the changes in stitch counts.
As some of the other knitters pointed out the mesh section is a 4 stitch repeat, and the edge lace is 9. This means that the mesh joins the lace at the edge in different places, and depending on the placement can make the holes look off-kilter. If I were to knit this again I might add a couple of rows of stockinette or even garter edging between the mesh and the edge so that the little stockinette triangles between each lace point don’t look so wonky. Of course it sticks out during blocking, and is not really noticeable when worn, so YMMV depending on how OCD you are about these things.
The other thing I would do differently is stick with the amount of stockinette called for in the pattern, and just knit more mesh to make the shawl bigger. It looked like a teeny tiny thing when I reached the end of the stockinette section, but once it was finished, I think it would have draped more nicely with less SS and more mesh.
This was a quick knit, and fairly mindless. It would be a great project for an ambitious beginner in lace. I really liked the end product. It’s a gift for my boss, but I secretly wish I could keep it.
