Great pattern but there are a couple things that I don’t love about my FO:
- I don’t really like the way the purl seams look
- I made a mitten flap for the fingers but was unsure what to do about the thumb - should’ve knit the whole thing because now it just looks dumb sticking out by itself. The mitten part ended up being too snug overall, so I ripped out and left fingerless as designed.
- I have really long hands and if I had made for myself, I would have made the fingerless part longer so it would be almost knuckle length instead of ending at the top of the palm. Hopefully Christi’s hands are shorter!
If I were to attempt again, I would:
- not work chart A first, but go straight to chart B. As I’m more interested in a traditional glove fit than a mitt fit, if that makes any sense!?
- omit the purl seams on the outside and knit continuously in the pattern back to the thumb side - this would make it a wee bit wider as well and that would be a bonus. Maybe even go up a needle size (US 3 instead of 2 with fingering for size small).
- leave the purl seam on the thumb side but omit any incomplete diamonds (during the increasing for the thumb and along the side as well)
- knit the thumb all the way as a mitten thumb
- knit as a mitten with a finger “slice” in the palm to which I can just slip my fingers out when needed. (May even do the same in the thumb)
