PATTERN NOTES:
These notes are an interpretation of Emily Ingrid’s free needle knit pattern of the popular CC beanie. The most important difference is the 4 pattern repeat instead of 3. You could stop at 3 repeats but my experience with both the loomed and needle version is that 3 repeats is just too small. Four is about right and the brim will cover your ears. I hope this becomes your favorite hat. Enjoy :)
Garter Stitch (7 rows PKPKPKP) could be substituted for the 6 purl rows of reverse stockinette but the hat will appear flat. The reverse stockinette gives the hat those nice rolls.
Also, there are indeed 5 rows of knit from the last pattern repeat (2 rows knit) and the beginning of the crown decrease (3rows knit)
There are several differences between this loom hat and an actual CC beanie. The CC beanie uses a folded brioche brim and brioche stitch for all ribbed sections. Brioche is easy enough on a loom but twisted rib takes less time and has better stretch. The needle version of this hat (Emily Ingrid) uses twisted rib for the brim only and then regular 1x1 rib for the other sections. The CC beanie is knitted flat (on a machine) and sewn together. I really do prefer the hand knit versions of this hat and I enjoy seeing all the colors combos that knitters have used.
