I have quite a few skeins of Red heart Unforgettable, so I’m doing several projects in this yarn.

This is my first attempt at the virus pattern and chose to make a child-size poncho.

Pattern is very well-written and easy to follow.

Yarn - I love it, but it’s not the easiest to work with . I prefer to use a larger hook with it than the pattern asks for. I find it much easier to work this way.

Making the poncho:
I chose the small/child section from the pattern.

First attempt with a 5.5mm hook and the neck was rather small, so I frogged and began again (not the easiest thing to do with this yarn, but I’m getting used to that!).

Second attempt was fine:
I chained 78 + 2 with a 6mm hook. would have used a 6.5 but couldn’t find it, so I chained VERY loosely.

Then continued pattern with the 5.5mm hook.

Neckline is now around 53.5 cms, so okay in size.
I will probably add a row or two to finish it off, as long as it doesn’t make the neckline too tight - will see.

Picture was taken when I was just finishing the 4th repeat.

5 repeats and the first skein of yarn almost finished.

I plan to do at least 6 repeats and then measure to see what length to make it. And what edging to finish it with.

Almost completed:
I made 7 repeats in the end.
I also added 2 rows of hdc to neckline.
Bordered poncho with sc all around - one in st and one in ch, etc… Made sure it was a contrasting colour to row before.

Poncho is now blocking to freshen it up.
Pompoms made ready for attaching to a chain tie.

Pompoms = 120 yarn turns each side of pompom maker.
Chain tie = 120 chains.

Completed!
Poncho is blocked, chain tie added and pompoms attached.

Not the best light to take a picture, so completed image is quite dark with loss of colour, so will try to add a better one in the morning

Measurements:
Neck circumference: 21 inches (53.34cms) - will stretch to 21.5 (54.61 cms) inches.

Length - from bottom of ‘v’ neckline to bottom edge (front and back): 19 inches (48.26 cms).

Length top edge of neckline over shoulder to edge at lower arm: 17 inches (43.18 cms).

Length base of neckline over shoulder to edge at lower arm: 16 inches (40.64 cms).

Suitable for a 3 to 6 year old.
(Room to grow for a 3 year old and will fit most 6 year olds).

Think I might just make another one of these
