Notes

Errata:
-- For the gusset the pattern says “Round 1:Ssk, work to 2 st before instep, k1tog, work instep. k1tog should be k2tog
-- Heel flap is worked across 32 (34) stitches.

Competition requirements:
Here is thread for you to ask the Blackberry socks pattern questions.
-- Size medium(64 sts) for Sock Madness qualification.
-- Size 8 beads are preferred and encouraged. Solids or tonals, no contrasting, variety packs.
-- You must have a picture of your socks after the beading and before doing the stitching, NOT to be confused with the counting/marking thread with markers at every 5 rounds,
-- AND
a picture that shows the detail of branches and beads

Required photos
--“I am confused regarding photos. Here it seems to say we must have a photo of 2 socks without duplicate stitch (preferably past heel, as per other post) before we can start doing duplicate st. In another post it seems that one Sock is all that is needed to get going on duplicate stitching, as long as as on the second pair there is a photo of the first Sock inside out.
Would this work:
1) knit Sock one past heel, photograph.
2) add duplicate st twig, another photograph.
3) add duplicate st leaves, third photograph.
4) complete Sock one (no photo).
5) knit 2nd Sock past heel, photograph it, plus Sock 1 turned inside out showing ds in the same photo. (4th photo)
6) add duplicate st twig on second Sock, photograph it with Sock 1 turned inside out showing ds. (5th photo)
7) add duplicate st leaves, photograph it with second Sock turned inside out showing ds. (6th photo)
8) complete Sock 2 adding markers on foot showing rounds, plus Sock 2 (rs showing this time), either on blockers or feet for the normal finished Sock photograph. (7th photo)
No additional in-progress photos needed.
(frigga2833, post 351)
--response by designer in post 354: That would do the trick.
And if someone forgets to do all that, turn both socks inside out and take a picture of that.
-- it is permissable to have floats in between sections of the same colour so that we can use fewer separate lengths of CC, although that might influence the stretch of the leg

Duplicate stitch notes from questions thread
--Karin meant for the duplicate stitch to be done as you look at the chart and the direction of knitting, so from the cuff down. (zemy, post 689)
--One strand of yarn. iffygauge, post 661)
--Use fingering yarn

18 March 2018.
The pattern dropped this morning before church. I couldn’t get it to print. Will start tonight.

29 March 2018.
Finished around 5:30 p.m. Tucked in ends, took final photos, and sent email.
The turnaround time by the mods is amazing -- submitted at 5:54 p.m. and approved at 5:57!!

10 July 2018.
Katherine took some selfies of her socks.

~~Beaded Berries and Duplicate Stitch~~
This was my first experience with beading my knitting. Definitely a stretch. The beading caused the stitches to distort, which made it difficult for me to determine where to start my duplicate stitch branches. I had to add a stitch here and there on the first sock, but was feeling more confident on the second. Also, on the first sock I miscounted some of the leaves, which resulted in too many stitches on some of the rows. I think that leaves on the second sock were all correct.

Re: blackberries
Row 1 - make 7 or 8 yo then knit as usual
Row 2 - drop all the yo and pull up the stitch that follows it (you’ll now be back to your stitch count) let it flop loose from the needles

  • load 13 beads onto this long stitch
  • take stitch plus needles and tie a simple knot in it by making a loop and pulling the end of the stitch through the loop
  • put that loop back on the left needle and knit it Later, you can twiddle with that knot and the beads on it so that it forms a berry shape.

Note about the ‘berry’ beading: you do not bead the yarnovers, but you drop the yo’s, elongate the stitch still on the left needle and thread the beads on that long stitch.

See Silvani’s post 49 re: overhand knot instructions and video.
