Notes

Yarn (because of the interplay of the four colors, solid-colored fingering yarns will work best for this project):
Color A (Cascade Sorata in Midnight Navy) 1 skein (350 yards)
Color B (Cascade Sorata in Silver) 1 skein (275 yards)
Color C (Cascade Sorata in Charcoal) 1 skein (225 yards)
Accent color (Cascade Sorata in Dusky Teal, or Antique Moss, or Scarlet) 1 skein (350 yards)
I would love to use Sorata -- who wouldn’t want to knit with 70% Llama, 30% Silk yarn? I would -- but it’s beyond my budget, atm.

My yarn
Susanna helped me decide: That light one should be your color B, and I think that the medium could be your color C, and the dark your color A :)

And thus are the weightier problems in life settled!

Designer’s notes
I am thrilled to be able to share more details of the upcoming Mystery KAL - the Oshara Shawl Mystery KAL. This is a free MKAL - the four clues will be presented in weekly installments on the Interweave blog through the month of June. I wrote four guest blog posts with tutorials and photos to accompany each portion of the pattern to help walk you through the knitting process.

As with all of our previous MKALs, you can join the discussion and show off your progress and your finished project here in the dedicated MKAL threads. As always, there will be a gallery for all the finished projects with the random drawing for winners one month after the KAL is complete - July 31, 2018.

Oshara is my classic top-down short row crescent shawl worked in a combination of easy slip-stitch colorwork, beginner-friendly lace, and simple garter stitch. The combination of the different elements makes this an interesting and fun-to-knit project that will just fly off your needles.

This is a generously-sized shawl shaped into a crescent with a set of easy short rows worked in garter stitch, so the wraps can be left in place, unworked, hidden within the texture. The lace and the colorwork patterns are simple enough even for an advanced beginner knitter because they include only basic stitches and the wrong side rows are purled.

My notes
9 June 2018.
I am in for the Oshara ride. I love Susanna IC designs, and the group community, and Susanna’s generous support, for my questions and problems. I would love to use Sorata -- who wouldn’t want to knit with 70% Llama, 30% Silk yarn? I would -- but it’s beyond my budget, atm. And so, I will use four colors of Woollike, which I will choose today, from the communal stash at our house.

26 June 2018.
I finished Clue 2 (finally). There was A. Lot. Of. Knitting. in Clue 2.
Looking at Clue 3, there seems to be less knitting, except that the number of stitches to be knit on each row has grown greater.

1 July 2018.
I finished knitting Clue 3 during FHE. I hope Clue 4 goes as quickly…

12 July 2018.
Knitting complete, most of the ends are finished.
Woot!!

17 July 2018.
My daughter Rebekah was in town -- all five of my daughters were in town, and at my house, on July 17 -- and I let her try on my Oshara shawl. She had seen me working on it the week before, when I was at her house, and I knew she liked the colors. Now that it is finished, loves “her” shawl. So, as I said, she tried it on, and I let her take it home. “Oh, you mean I don’t have to wait till Christmas?” she asked. And no, there was really no reason why she should have to.

Finished and gifted.
