My daughter is expecting twins this fall. Baby A is a little girl. Baby B has spina bifida, and we can’t tell from the ultrasounds whether a boy or girl. In the nature of a prayer shawl, my prayers extend to this dear little grandchild with every stitch I make.

I finished the second ball of yarn last night, and the blanket already measures 21 inches square. I’m hoping for a 30 inch blanket, and I think I am very close.

I got the yarn at the 50%-off wall at my LYS, and the day before she had 9 balls, but when I went in there with intent to purchase, were only 4 left. Given the yardage, I seriously thought that there would be plenty for a blessing blanket. We shall see. If not, then I will order some pale gender-neutral color for the final borders.

I just did some math involving square roots, and the finished blanket should be about 29.6 inches per side. Maybe I’ll give it a little s-t-r-e-t-c-h, and see what happens.

After asking my daughter’s opinion, we have decided that a 30 inch square blanket is sufficient. Finished the ends at knit night, at this project is DONE.

Notes regarding Baby B
On August 1, Baby B was kind enough however to rotate for us so we can see the myelomeningocele, so pretty much certain that s/he has spina bifida. We still don’t know the gender of Baby B, as she (assumed) is not cooperating in that regard.

Finally, at the August 30 ultrasound, Baby B decided to be a little more cooperative. The doctors are pretty confident that Baby B is, in fact, a boy! Both babies are growing fine. The best guess estimate is that they are both 3lb 2oz, but we know how “accurate” these measurements can be.
