knittinghun had the idea to work a Fenja in Aran weight and asked me to help her with the re-calculation.
So I thought: Why not make this available to everybody else?
And of course I will knit my own version. I will use Ruppert Garne Soft Donegal (Tweed) with 2 threads held together in the beautiful color “Moy”, which gives me a gauge of about 18-19 sts on 4,5mm needles.
(I tried with Soft Donegal & Soft Lamb, which is also a good option, but as I am a tight knitter, 2x Donegal will guarantee that it is really Aran weight and no too close to the 24 sts Sport version which already exists.)
I love the water color Tweed flecks so much, I will try to pick up every single one of them and in a stripe. Stripes will be worked in Ruppert Garne Soft Lamb, with 4 threads held together (maybe only 3 for the edging, but between the Tweed flecks, it needs 4 strands to be visible.)
A stripe takes 4-6g (20-50m, depending on position).
Stripes:
1) Marlin (needed about 4x4m)
2) Privet (4x 4,50m)
3) half Silver/ half Ash
4) Indigo
5) Ocean
6) Opal
I started with size M, but my gauge tightened with washing, so I switched to a kind of L size.
14.02.19: Separated into body and sleeves.
06.03.19: Both sleeves done and about 50cm of the body.
I have used 4x100g so far and half of the 5th 100g-ball. I think I will need a bit more than 800g (for size L with extra-long sleeves).
15.03.19: Started hood.
Colors (all Ruppert Soft Lamb):
- Spearmint
- Jade
- Laurel
- Cornish Blue
- Sea Holly
- Denim
- Tweed
- Aqua
- Tiffany
Edging was done in a different leftover of which I have enough - a blue-ish silver.
830g used (M-L with extra-long arns, 82cm length).
95g MC per sleeve, 90g for hood, 30g MC for edge.
Photo shooting was done in Skagen, Denmark.
