Notes

I originally started this with Sinfonia. It’s splitty as hell but I really loved the color and sheen. What I didn’t love was knitting all those bobbles, only to watch them disappear in the yarn.

Wool is probably a better choice anyway, since it’ll come closer in size to Dave’s. Plus, the rest of the stockings have all been wool.

12/19/10, 1AM: just finished final square

12/23/10 2AM: finally got to lace cuff, just a few more rows until bind off and then on to lengthen leg

How I lengthened the leg and heel change:
With main color, pick up and knit 80 stitches around lower edge.Work the garter stitch/knit/eyelet/bobble/eyelet/knit/garter stitch section of the counterpane squares straight (no decreases) all the way around.

After the last garter stitch section (below the bobbles), knit 60 stitches (bringing you 20 stitches from back of heel area), use smooth waste yarn to knit next 40 stitches, drop waste yarn, pick up main yarn and knit over the stitches made with waste yarn, knit two full repeats of garter stitch/knit/eyelet/bobble/eyelet/knit/garter stitch section of the counterpane squares straight. Knit a garter stitch toe.

For heel, pick up 40 stitches--20 above and 20 below waste yarn--and pick or snip out waste yarn. Make garter stitch heel same as toe.

10//11: Though I marked this finished last Dec., I didn’t actually give it to her because it needed ends sewn in, a hanger loop and her name. I originally changed the top (behind the lace) so that the knit side was on the outside, under the lace. I was planning to duplicate stitch her name on that part, hidden. But I don’t like the way the top edge looks (see top in 2nd pic) so I’ve ripped it back to where I picked up stitches to knit as per pattern. I will pick up an engraved tag to add to the base of the hanging loop.
