I am doing the brim a little different; work 15 rounds in 1x1 ribbing, then a purl round ( the turning round), then another 15 rounds of ribbing , next a joining round with the cast on edge.
One of the benefits with this kind of cuff is that it not only keeps you warm, but you can also hide the tail end from the cast on inside the cuff and only need to weave in one end after you are done.

I made this hat some years ago : https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Strickliese/cable-hat-3113 and the colors have faded. Time to replace it and with a warmer cuff.
