Notes

The yarn is actually not the Remy , but BFL 4-ply fingering. Exactly the yarn pictured on the pattern page.
I like the idea of intentional color pooling and this pattern looks easy enough for TV knitting. And I LOVE the gray and pink together.
A big Thank You to Hobbylehrer who posted links to YouTube on his project page Hobbylehrer’s Schmetterlingswiese to demonstrate the cluster stitch; most helpful!

4.22. So, I stayed up way past my bedtime last night.
You see, the PROBLEM with this pattern is that I keep guessing where the next blossom will land and I just have to see the next and the next after that and after that one and so on and so on…To me it looks like blossoms blowing in the wind and of course that makes me think of Spring and happy times of renewal although at the same time I am singing in my head “ how many times…the answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind…” and it’s just there, out of my reach, yet I try to grasp it again and again. cherry_blossom cherry_blossom cherry_blossom
Oh, and yes, this is perfect TV knitting as we watched three episodes of Gardeners World with Monty Don.

5.8. To be honest, this has become too boring to pick up at any other time, other than during TV watching or chatting ( I hold a virtual “Knit and Natter” every first and third Thursday for a local library). But then I am happy how it grows when I am not paying attention and it is good to have a project for just such times.
I joined the second ball of yarn today. The pink in this one is a bit deeper, almost fuchsia, but I don’t mind at all, on the contrary, it is piquing my interest a little.

5.13. At 155 sts and 54 g left of the second skein this has already reached quite a length; almost as long as my „Leftie Shawl“ by Martina Behm. I am planning to just use up the rest of this skein and keep the shawl at that length.

5.15. I definitely prefer the length I am getting with two skeins ( a personal preference). Weighing the yarn after every 10 rows ( approximately 8 g per 10 rows). Will start the ribbing when I have around 20 g left.

5.16. Starting the ribbing at 174 sts and 21 g of yarn left.
Even before blocking this seems plenty big enough.
At this point I no longer add sts, but just keep knitting straight for 20 ( or more) rows.
At first I kept the ribbing within each floret cluster, but didn’t like the look so I changed it to have smoother florets by working them the same way they were worked throughout the main body of the shawl for either the RS or WS and picking up the ribbing only after the cluster is worked. This way the blossoms seemingly float in front of the ribbed background. cherry_blossom

5.18. Bound off today (using a US#5 needle) and I am definitely happy with the resulting size. With 3 g of yarn left I even have a little to play with; perhaps on the pockets of a otherwise grey sweater, or the hem… we will see.
Now on to blocking. Adding a little vinegar in with the wool wash to set the color as I wouldn’t want the pink to run… better safe than sorry.
Blocked to 72 inches by 41 inches out in the sunshine. It almost dried already before I could pin it all down on such a beautiful warm morning. I had to spray it a bit more before letting it dry for good.

Please note that I have one extra full skein of yarn which I am willing to sell at cost plus shipping. Text me if interested.

THE ANSWER MY FRIEND, IS BLOWING IN THE WIND

There is also this: After finishing the “Float” shawl, I whipped up the top because I had the yarn and it matched the pink in the shawl. But look what happened: The fan stitch which makes the increases in the round yoke, looks so much like the cluster stitch in the shawl. A match made in heaven wink very pleased with it.
