I have been wanting to make something for my son‘s mother in law in these colors. This seems to be the perfect pattern.
One of her daughters recently passed away ( she had just only turned 35 and was a favorite sister to my daughter in law). Purple was one of her favorite colors.
I almost knitted up another „ Texas Rain“ , but think she will like this better ( discussed it with hubby who promptly bought me the pattern ).
To account for the thicker yarn and to make it shorter ( Reiko is only 5‘2“) I cast on 258 sts using the German Twisted Cast on.
4.7. Using approximately 18 g per shortrow section, so I will either need to get my hands on another ball of Knitpicks Chroma in the color Avalon or since that color is discontinued, I could introduce a different color in the middle.
4.9. Within two days I received my order of the additional Chroma worsted. I went with “Red Velvet”, because reds and pinks were also some of Rebecca’s favorite colors. Knitting up the middle section and final edge section in this color wave. Neat how it came out that the shortrow sections match up in color on the return row ( row 7). Truth be told it matched up for the first three repeats , then I manipulated and cut out some yarn here and there. At first I wasn’t sure about the different color choice ( you can never tell colors so well on line), but now I am fully embracing it and just hope that Reiko will like it, too.
4.12. I also ran low on the Cascade in purple , so did the final border in Cascade in red which I had left over from a previous project, a baby hat
I like it as it picks up the reds in the middle and gives it a nice contrast.
I worked on this like a fiend, feverishly, abandoning all else ( including cleaning the house since some minor construction was going on and one cannot keep up with it anyway…). I just had to see how it all worked out in the end. I am glad to say that I am rather pleased with the outcome.
