I like Elizabeth Zimmerman’s patterns and I like Wyeth‘s paintings, so making this hat, connecting to both, is a no-brainer.

During the NY State Sheep and Wool Festival 2024 in Rhinebeck, I came across a very serene scene of a sheperdess and her sheep. It made me think of the Wyeth painting and I finally started the Maltese Fisherman’s Hat with yarn I had left from knitting a couple of baby hats. heart

Just a few more rounds and then the tassel of my dreams. I may even add a button and loop on the edges of the flaps to button them up under my chin or two braided ties thinking_face
This hat feels very warm.

Taking it slow at this point, because my carpal tunnel is acting up a bit and I am also binding off a shawl .

Finally had the time to finish and make the tassel of my dreams.
I added two more rounds for height and made the tassel more or less like I did for the garter stitch hat by Purl Soho, except that I used a crochet hook instead of a darning needle, because that’s what I had at hand.
I have two 8” length braids to tie the hat if I wish.
