To simplify the process and not cut the yarn so many times, I work the toe flap as follows:
K across the beginning sts with my circular needle, knit the center 14 sts onto a DPN, leave the last section of sts on the circular needle ( these have the same st count as the first section, which is 12 sts in the size I am working).

I also don’t bind off and then pick up sts, instead I work the sole with the life sts.

Started on the second slipper.

Finished both slippers today. I used a different color yarn for the heels to add a splash of color. Finished the triangle with a 5 stitch crochet I-cord ( chain plus slipped stitches).
I like how they came out. It will be a nice gift.
I am thinking to make a baby sized pair in the same color, except for the heel. I would make that with yet another color yarn.
