Using different patterns from Barbara Walker’s book “Mosaic Knitting “.
Using Band 63 for the sides and seven repeats of Mosaic 12 „sprig“ for the middle.
Cast on 100 sts and started the middle motif after four rows of garter stitch, the side bands after an additional six rows.
I think it would look better with a dividing line between the side bands and the middle section. I will keep this in mind if I do something like this again.
Finished the first of a set of two and I like how it came out. Perhaps use a smoother pima cotton next time.
Yarn usage: First placemat with Green as background color in the midsection:
Green- 64.9 gram
White- 47.9 gram

I did quite a bit of research to find the perfect crochet border for the top and bottom edge.
This is a good link although with a lot of ads:
25 crochet edging.
I thought about the Iris stitch border., but since that’s worked all around, I picked a simple stitch which is worked back and forth over the edge. The blossom stitch picks up the rounded motif of the flowers in the left and right borders. Here is a link to the Blossom Stitch.
But before working on the crochet border I took care of the flare. Gauge must be different with mosaic knitting, probably because you pull the stitches closer when slipping them. It is something I had not considered. I will „fudge“ it with the bottom border , will single crochet first to pull it in a bit. The top border however looks worst and I redid it on both placemats, reducing the stitch count from 100 to 88.
