Notes

My DIL wanted a pocket shawl in her sister’s favorite colors to feel her love and hugs after her passing.
I am deciding between this crochet version and a knitted version for which I also purchased the pattern knitted pocket shawl.

A little rusty with crochet and crochet terminology, but YouTube came to the rescue to refresh my memory on hdc and other sts.
My chain cast on is a little tight, but I think it will be fine when all is done.
There are several videos on wrapped double crochet, here is one I found helpful : How to work the wrapped double crochet

I didn’t have the right sized hooks and it got all loosey goosey on the size N hook, especially considering that the yarn is thinner ( #3 instead of#4).
I left the chain and first row and then restarted on a size L hook. It looks so much better. My DIL likes it better and that is the important part. heartpulseheartpulse

2.17. A fourth ball of yarn arrived in the mail today and I was able to finish the body of the shawl.

2.18. Started on the pockets today. Trying to get the same color sequence for both, using all mauve and pink colors from two skeins. I also double the yarn for the pockets with a metallic silver thread to give them a little more sparkle.
In the last six rows I first doubled with, then continued with cascade sunseeker on its own to add the red color Rebecca liked, too. When doubling the yarn for rows 16 and 17, I went down to a smaller hook to keep the same gauge.

3.2. Fringe: At first I was going to make multicolor fringes, but then as I was looking at the shawl I decided to match the color of the body in each fringe. It looks better put together, a continuous flow. I still have to cut the fringes to even them out, but meanwhile I hung the shawl over the back of my couch to look at it. I love the way it came out. I feel happy seeing it all finished. It is bright and happy and sparkly.
I am looking forward to giving it to my DIL when I see her next Monday which coincidentally also Marks 40 days since Rebecca passed.
This was definitely a labor of love.
