In between projects ( waiting for yarn for one and have decide on pattern for the other). When in doubt I knit dishcloths/ washcloths. They are a good staple to have handy for gift giving and meanwhile the project keeps my hands busy and fingers nimble.
The main color I am using is a natural undyed with different color specks in it which I pick up in the Color of the border. I like the (smaller) size of these. They fit my hand perfectly.
I am Knitting the waffle dishcloth. Half way through I decided to make the whole set. A quick addictive knit.
Waffle stitch: To make the top and bottom borders look nicer knit two rows in stockinette stitch after the four rows of garter stitch and before starting with the 4 row pattern repeat. Then after the final repeat do a reverse garter stitch for four rows starting with a Purl row on the RS.
But knitting it as written in the instructions is fine, too. It all depends on how fussy you are.
Next : Long Raindrop dishcloth: You should only knit another 36 rows after your initial 12 , then start on the garter stitch. ( I wrote to the designer).
Double Fleck Cloth: The chart and written instructions don’t seem to match. I ended up following the written instructions.
Last:Hurdle Stitch cloth: Finished this one last during an evening of TV .
A lot of yarn ends to weave in. Lucky for me, I knitted in most ends at the color change points. I gave the yarn ends a dab of fray check to keep things tidy.
I finished the set of four in just a little over one day. A highly addictive project.
Since making this first set I have been making several more sets. These make great gifts in a pinch.
October 2020
Perhaps some easier improvements to create better symmetry
Working on my third set with white speckled as the MC.
I made some minor changes to keep the pattern more centered.
HURDLE STITCH: CO 35 sts ( or 37); work 42 (or 46) rows in pattern.
WAFFLE STITCH: CO # of sts as per pattern, but work two extra rows before the garter edge.
LONG RAINDROPS: CO as per pattern and work pattern for a total of 44 rows.
I have also used some other stitch patterns as suggested by the designer. Always with a CC for cast on and bind off and staying within the same size.
