Two skeins were amongst the donations of our LYS, Fabulous Yarns in Tivoli, NY and I was the lucky winner on Knit in Public Day in June 2024.
Some other skeins in other colors were also received by other members of the Library’s Fiber Art Group ( knitting and more).
Someone in the group used this pattern to make a lovely cardigan and gave me her leftover yarns (white and a bit of gray.
Fast forward to November 2024 when I found out that I will need rotor cuff surgery in my right shoulder this coming Spring , I decided to make this jacket in a size 18 months. We just had our first grandchild in October and by the time he is 18 months, I should be recovered enough to knit more bigger sizes
I had to decide on the main color and choose the multicolored “Mayflower “ color, purchased one more skein and am ready to go.

For a more fluent cast on, I cast on all stitches and then clipped in the markers.
I finished the first 18 rows today and am quite happy to see that Jill’s white remnant was enough for a full stripe and most likely for the rows at the sleeves and hem.

Came across the math problem some other knitters had mentioned and wrote to the designer:
“ Hello Fawn,
I love that cute little cardigan and since I had won two skeins of Blue Sky organic Cotten, and just had a grand baby last month, I was right on it.
I bought an additional skein to make the 18 months size which will be perfect because he has a lot of clothes now and I will be out of commission after surgery for a torn rotary cuff.
Now to my problemSuper-Natural Stripes: the math does not work out.
Adding sts as written, I will get to 48 sts between the back stitch markers when I have a total stitch count of 172. After I put the sleeve sts on Waste Yarn and CO 2 sts as per instructions, I am left with 92 body stitches, not 96.
I could either cast on 4 underarm sts instead of 2 or I could incorporate the fist and last stitch of the sleeves into the body.
I know, a few knitters have had difficulty with the pattern and that is why I did a deep dive into it and I think, the easiest to edit the pattern to get to the right stitch count would be to say to incorporate two of the sleeve sts into the body.
Thank you again for the pattern.
Doris”

Got to 11 1/2 inches and started the garter edge.
I knitted one row in White, then knitted one row in Green, then go back to the multi colored yarn and knitted another three garter ridges.

Bound off the body and put everthing away to work on during vacation in February.

Fawn responded to my query today:
„Hi Doris, thanks for getting in touch!
Apologies that the math doesn’t work. I designed this free pattern 14 years ago, so I’m delighted that people are still knitting it and having fun with it.
The important thing is not to get the stitch count exactly right, it’s to get the sweater to the correct size that you want. Check your gauge! If you don’t have enough stitches on the needles to get the final circumference that you want, do another increase round. If you have enough, you can stop increasing. :-)
Good luck with your surgery and I hope your rotary cuff heals quickly!“

I picked this up yesterday again, thinking I’d rather finish this before my vacation rather than during.
Finished the sleeves today and did an I-cord bind off on the larger needle using this method of grafting to make it look uninterrupted circular.

Did one extra row on the button band and collar and use the I-cord bind off in the solid green to give it an overall more finished / framed look.

Planning to add pockets.

Finished this yesterday although it still needs buttons, blocking and some small ( but not too small) a toy to put in the pocket.
