Did three swatches:
On #8 needle, #7 needle and doubled with the lace yarn on #7 needle and #8 needle.
I like the feel and look of the third swatch best.
Gauge 18 sts to 4 inches. For 34” (32+2“ positive ease), I will need to cast on 153 sts ( 2x76 sts). The first size, CO 74sts is the closest and I will follow those instructions. The pattern states that I need 680 yards. I will knit this up seamless such as “hatsamplers” did, saving on yardage.

I tried one other yarn combination with Malabrigo sock yarn, but that reminds me too much at the Boyfriend sweater I knitted years ago.
Looking at all of my swatches, the ine with Findley brings me closest to the yardage/ g ratio the pattern used and the combo is growing on me. The yarn used in the pattern: 68.8 g/ 100yards. Pimo worsted+ Findley= 70.35/ 100 yards.

Final plan: Double the yarn with the turquoise in the ribbed hem and around the armholes and button bands. Double the yarn with the Findley in the body.
AND embroider with the turquoise yarn or a thicker yarn of the same color in the front.

This is coming along nicely. The ribbing is done and the right and left fronts as well as the back and the pockets. I will pick this up again on vacation.

I picked this up again yesterday during vacationing in Florida, but was so tired from the long drive, that I promptly made a mistake when I joined the pieces while working on the pocket lining.
Unravelled twelve rows and I am now back on track.

Joined the pocket fronts this morning and will now keep knitting all three pieces together until I reach the arnholes ( aproximately 16” total length).
Tonight I also took out some of the ribbing, both in the front and the back.

Kitchener stitched the shoulders today ( instead of 3-needle BO).

Finished the hood. It seems to pucker where the center and sides are joined. I think it may be a mistake to join on every row
.
Now it is on to the button band. When picking up its along the pockets, I go through both layers and safe myself from having to sew the pockets closed later.

I have not yet found the right buttons and I have gone to two stores so far. Just as I was considering and looking into making my own buttons out of resin I came across kathidubach‘s Viatori and she made gorgeous buttons herself out of Fimo.
I found directions on how to on Youtube and I am hooked by the idea to make my own buttons.

Finished knitting and found some buttons in my button jar at home.

I finally bought buttons and the vest is finished completely. It feels so soft and warm to wear.
