To keep track I remember that each row is actually two rows and that I always turn two sts before the previous turn during the first half then two stitches after for the second half. In order to get to the other end of your work for the next shortrows you need to knit an odd number of rows; row 18 plus two rows.
The pattern is easy to memorize and makes for a quick knit. The finished cloth reminds me of an octopus
