I joined Carol Feller’s kal on the late side but here I am! I cast on March 1 with Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine first using 4.0mm straights (which I hated) but after 2 repeats I decided I didn’t like the look of how loose it was. Looking at my stash which is mostly dk or worsted weight yarns, I cast on with Cascade SW 220 with 4.0mm needles. I loved the look of it but after 6 repeats decided the gauge was too large to end up working or fitting correctly without a lot of recalculating. On my third try, I tried my Berroco yarn again with 3.75mm needles and still didn’t like it. On March 3, I found some Blue Moon painted yarn (unlabelled so I don’t know which) in a lovely colour that I cast on with using 3.5mm needles. I love how the pink knits up so far!
I tried using regular w&t first and with all my trial versions tried other methods, I looked at a lot tutorials and youtube videos on short rows for stocking stitch and finally for garter stitch. I also tried using german short rows. In the end I used traditional w&t but I did NOT pick up wraps on the pick up row! This results in the work having no noticeable wraps being picked up at all but looks to be just another purl bump! I used this in the pink version.
Since this is handpainted yarn, I am alternating the yarn every other row on the bottom edge pf the yoke side.
March 7, 2015: Yoke is done! Was worried about my gauge but it is fine!
I decided on knitting the A-line version so instead of decreases I did increases. I had 204 stitches at the start of the short row curve. I followed the 42.5 size for the short rows.
I didn’t have 3.5mm don’t but I did have 12” 3.75mm circular needles so I used them for my sleeves. The sleeves turned out the perfect width but I made them 11” before the I-cord bind off for my shorter arms.
It fits great but since I will wear this buttoned and didn’t like the gaps even with the fit so I stitched together the fronts through the I-cord so that it doesn’t show. No gaping now!!
I bought 5 skeins but have 30g of the 4th skein left.
