2010/8/12 -- I should explain that Edward L. LeFant is a small plush elephant. He’s the department mascot and lives with one person for a month (employee chosen by random drawing). I have him this month (August 2010). Ever since he joined the team, people have been showering him with gifts such that he now travels from cube to cube in a case with all his stuff.
Since I have him for a whole month, figured I should make something for the trousseau. Finally settled on a cape, which is structured pretty much like my own office shawl. Wanted something nice, but machine washable because if he ever gets it dirty, any washing instructions will have been long since lost. Stash provided a ball of cotton with nice colors.
2010/8/14 -- Now after having knit up some of this yarn I wish I could remember where I picked up that single ball. It has a pleasant feel and knits up nicely. But the colors are what impressed me--soft blue, sage green and peach. It would be perfect with blue jeans and yet flattering to my Spring complexion. Want.
2010/8/24 -- Found a nice-sized green button in the stash, and made a crochet chain button loop. Will deliver this to Edward when I go back to the office on Thursday. A coworker promised to help me get a photo of Edward in his new finery.
Used wet blocking as I tend to favor, and happened to lay this out on a white pad to dry. Was amazed at how much dye bled out. Guess that’s still something to be wary of.
2010/8/26 -- Coworker Tom was able to take photos as promised. Also note Edward’s official company badge, also Tom’s creation.
