Notes

September 19, 2020

I’m really not very good at getting my side seams to look neat when they’re done, so I decided straight off to make this in one piece.

This meant making sure I understood the pattern before I started. I found the same problem with row 67 of the bobble pattern as others have mentioned. The instructions don’t match the pattern photos. If they did, the side diamonds centre rows would have 4-5-5-4 bobbles, instead of 4-5-4.

Likewise the larger diamonds would come to distinct points, and the diagonals might have a visible jog between top and bottom.

(My personal preference would be to have a figure eight design so that the lines run true, which would probably involve adjusting the ‘white space’ at the bottom hem.)

The ‘missing’ bobble rows beg the question as to whether there are in fact two less rows before the arm hole than the designer quotes or whether it’s worked out some other way.

And after all that, I’m also dubious whether to substitute some other form of decoration for the bobbles. I’m using up some long discontinued stash yarn on this, and it’s for someone else. I don’t want them to find the shape distorting after the second or third wash.
