Swatch 1
Interlocking Crochet 6mm hook.

October 7, 2022

Swatch 1 written off before complete. Going to be too fiddly to convert as I go and I’m not sure about how the negative space would come out.

Swatch 2 - once I do some bobbins

8mm? hook. Tunisian.

October 8, 2022

In a way it’s still hard to judge with Swatch 2. Even a large swatch is such a small part of image it’s hard to tell if the proportions look okay. The density is good, but the fabric is very curly, so if I go for this method, I think l’d go up to a 9 mm hook. The 10 mm is tempting, but I don’t want it to start looking holey.

October 16, 2022

It’s been about four full days and a bit of a morning. As far as the image goes, I hit the 20% mark late last night. Calling it 15% on completion bar because it’s going to take a hefty border to deal with curl, even on 9mm hook. I would possibly be more accurate in terms of time to call it 10%. So far, it’s all biggish areas of colour or long thin strips. Once I get to the face and neckerchief, it’ll be more time consuming, with fiddly little areas and adding and removing bobbins.

(The other days were spent working on samples that I unravelled after a few rows every time)

Row 44/54

Row 63

November 11, 2022

Row 82

November 29, 2022

Centre panel and one row single crochet larger hook completed.

Width of two border motifs with smaller hook
‘=‘ width 16 rows Tunisian large hook
‘=‘ width 21 stitches Tunisian large hook

152 rows, increasing in every second stitch = 228 stitches= 19 motifs at start of border, 21 at end.

202 large stitches increasing every seventh stitch would be 231 stitches, Make this 228 stitches instead by increase in stitch 1, 9, 17, 25, 33, 41, 49, 57, 65, 73, 81, 89, 97, 106, 114, 122, 130, 138, 146, 154, 162, 170, 178, 186, 194, 202.

Therefore square (21x12)+2 when done.
