Photos:
Lake Erie up in Cleveland on St. Patrick’s Day 2012!
Cowl looks great on both sides even though their slightly different (not much diff. to the avg non-knitter’s eye though)
Yarn:
color in photos is close but hard to capture--definitely more green than blue, maybe a cyan or turquoise…and a vivid one at that! Love love love the colorways of madelintosh…beautiful.
As soon as I saw this color I thought of Jules because of her gorgeous red hair…and sure enough it is a smashing combo! :D
Pattern/MODs:
this stitch pattern IS really dense…i’m thinking for the second one (see Kelly’s cowl) i might go up a needle size to make it more fluid/flexible. it just doesnt have a very appealing drape to me, though i’m sure it will be hella cozy in the winter.
After blocking it (very aggressively to try and thin it out/give it more length), it feels less heavy and more sumptuous, though it’s also an awkward length. crap! I meant to measure the finished length/width but forgot before I gave it away…
Future cowls will either be short and fat, with just once-around-the-neck, OR longer for a twice-around wrap, making it skinnier unless I give in an use two skeins.
Pros:
easy mindless quick pattern, nice texture, lots of flexibility in the dimensions. lovely yarn, and would be nice for more variegated yarns (which I’m usually hesitant to use)
Cons: tough to know how the length will be when it’s on the circulars, but going off the pattern gauge and now my experience with it will make it easier to figure out.
One skein just doesn’t seem like enough material to work with (pattern suggests one or two, i just chose one cuz i’m broke). especially for winter coziness, two would be preferred.
