Pattern:
made it up, pretty basic stockinette with sewn-on flowers. Hat went pretty quick, though i messed up the top at first b/c I was on the train and not paying attn… then the flowers were a bit tedious. I only did them on the front, b/c the baby arrived earlier and I couldn’t stand to go all the way around. doesn’t matter, it still looks super cute.

Yarn:
From A Verb For Keeping Warm…I was browsing the store a day after Kelly requested a hat, and I spotted this yarn…I liked the color to begin with, but when I noticed that the yarn-type was called “Creating” and the colorway was “Motherhood.” It couldn’t have been a coincidence-- I knew I HAD to use this yarn for this hat! And hey, it was nice excuse to buy more yummy AVFKW yarns :D

anyway, it’s soft and springy sock yarn, with nice variegation from light pink to brownish-pink to a plum purple in some spots. I liked how it was feminine, but not --in my opinion--“sickly” or “cutesy” pink. Someone commented it almost looked like the color of meat. err…

Oh! and it’s superwash, which is a must for baby stuff. I expected it to shrink a little in the wash but it didn’t really.

Photos: Hopefully I will get picks of the actual baby in the hat…I have a feeling it will be too big for a ‘newborn’ size, but obviously she will grow into it, before you can say ‘college fund’… ;)

Commentary:

March 3

swatched, washed, blocked: loooooove this yarn!

13” is target head-circumference here.

the baby came early! She was due in April!
I still have to finish the flowers!

April 10
we were goofing off and trying to figure out if this would fit a baby…but we didn’t have a baby around so we tried the next best thing: My cat Gus! He looks sooo adorable!! (and so thrilled! ha)
