Notes

Notes for next time:

  • Sleeves too short for my liking if I followed the pattern, so I followed the sleeve length of my Strokkur which I love, and these now fit great!
  • Sleeve notes: picked up 2 extra stitches at the underarm, then on the first knit round, k2tog and ssk to close them up.
  • When I finished the 3rd ball of yarn, I stopped knitting the body and moved to the sleeves. I figured I had 2 balls of yarn left and both sleeves could be the same length. Then I’ll go back and knit the rest of the body and possibly use up all the yarn.
  • I used up every single bit of yarn from 5 skeins, with only a couple of yards left at the end. I didn’t make it to the end of the body trim but it’s plenty long for me.

Cast on! This is an awesome colour. Inspired by the original sample but in a more ‘me’ shade of blue.

So far this pattern is like a puzzle, I’m not sure what the next step is going to be and how it’s going to all work but I’m excited to find out!

New techniques to me:

  • one-row buttonhole (I like this)
  • m1 with a backwards loop
  • Knitting a funnel neck shape

12/5 got to the body part.. loving how easy it is especially once the sleeve separation is done! Once that part happens it’s easy to knit without the book or pattern in front of me.

12/9 fast project! Finished one sleeve, started second sleeve.
Sleeve notes: picked up 2 extra stitches at the underarm, then on the first knit round, k2tog and ssk to close them up. I read this on someone else’s notes and it worked great, no gaps under the arms!
Knit 10 rounds before first decrease.
Knit 8 rounds in between decreases.
Knit 19 rounds after last decreases and before starting cuff.
Knit 14 rounds for cuff, stopped on a KNIT row, did regular bind off.
I found that the sleeves were going to be too short for my liking if I followed the pattern, so I followed the sleeve length of my Strokkur which I love, and these now fit great!

12/12 finished both sleeves, back to the body to use up the rest of the yarn. I stopped at the same point as the pattern indicates, now I’ll use up the rest of my yarn knitting the garter stitch border. Hope I have enough to get to 3”!

Oh it’s done! Knit until I ran out of yarn, not 3” but good enough. Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy bind off so it wouldn’t be too tight, it’s a bit obvious and doesn’t blend into the garter stitch but better that than being too tight right?

Love this sweater. It’s like a warm soft hug. Now to pick out the perfect buttons!
